Increase
Vaḍḍhī (SN 37.34)
1. “At one time the Blessed One was living in the squirrels' sanctuary in the bamboo grove in Rajagaha and the Blessed One addressed the monks:
2. “Monks, the noble female lay disciple comes to increase in these five and comes to the essential and to excellence in this body. What five?
3. “She increases in faith, virtues, learning, benevolence and wisdom. Monks, the noble female lay disciple comes to increase in these five and comes to the essential and to excellence in this body.
In this world she increases in faith and virtues
In wisdom and both benevolence and learning
Becoming a virtuous lay disciple
She attains the essential in this life itself.”
